Kakao Map Launches Maple Map for Autumn Foliage Across Korea
The service tracks 65 foliage and ginkgo spots in three stages and adds walking trails picked by shoe brand Le Mouton, with events starting October 23.
Kakao Map launched a "Maple Map" service that shows the autumn foliage status at 65 major foliage and ginkgo spots across South Korea, the company said on October 19, 2026, according to techm.kr.
The Maple Map marks each spot in three stages — before foliage, first foliage and peak foliage — using maple-leaf and ginkgo-leaf icons. Tapping an icon opens a detail page with the address, parking and website information, and plays a falling-leaves animation.
The service also introduces walking trails selected by shoe brand Le Mouton. From October 23, Kakao Map runs events with Le Mouton offering 30,000-won Baemin vouchers to 30 people and 10,000-won Mega MGC Coffee vouchers to 100 people, plus a chance to win Le Mouton sneakers.
Tmap data shows a shift toward urban foliage spots
Tmap Mobility analyzed destination data for October–November 2024 and October–November 2025 and found demand rising for urban and suburban foliage spots. Namsan Cable Car saw its destination settings rise 85.4% year-on-year, the largest increase, followed by Seoul Botanic Park and Giheung Lake Park.
Among the top 15 traditional foliage spots in 2025, 11 drew fewer destination settings than in 2024. Hwadam Forest and Seorak Cable Car stayed first and second for two consecutive years but each fell more than 20%. Naejangsan National Park rose from 22nd to 12th and Mungyeong Saejae from 24th to 14th.
The Korea Forest Service forecast peak foliage — 50% or more colored — for Seoraksan around October 20, Songnisan around October 28, Naejangsan around November 4 and Hallasan around November 6. Kakao Map had previously offered a "Cherry Blossom Map" service in spring.
