Kakao Adds AI Assistant and Privacy Features to KakaoTalk
Kakao is updating KakaoTalk with Kanana Space AI integration, profile privacy settings, and new chat tab organization based on user feedback.
Kakao announced a series of upcoming features for KakaoTalk on October 16, 2026, aimed at enhancing user privacy and platform functionality. According to techm.kr, the update includes the ability to change user profiles without notifying friends and the option to pin favorite contacts to the top of the list.
The company is integrating its Kanana Space AI assistant directly into the platform to assist with tasks such as scheduling, web searches, and adjusting application settings. Additionally, the update moves the OpenChat tab to the first position within the Now tab and introduces a feature that allows users to disable notification badges for specific OpenChat rooms.
These changes follow previous efforts to refine the platform's user experience. In May 2026, Kakao established a User First TF to incorporate direct feedback into its service planning and development. This follows a major update to the application's friend and chat tabs that took place in 2025 after the if kakao25 event.
