South Korea tests 5G subway Wi-Fi on Incheon lines

The Ministry of Science and ICT ran a quality test across 7 stations on Incheon Subway Lines 1 and 2, the first routes where all three carriers launched 5G Wi-Fi.

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held a 5G-based subway Wi-Fi quality demonstration on October 21 along the section of Incheon Subway Line 2 running from Unyeon Station to Incheon City Hall Station, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

The event was organized to check improvements on Incheon Subway Lines 1 and 2, the first routes on which all three major telecom carriers have launched 5G-based subway Wi-Fi service.

Participants rode the train across 7 stations between Unyeon and Incheon City Hall, using web browsing, social media and video streaming during the trip. The ministry said users experienced faster response times for browsing and social media than before, and that high-definition video played without interruption even with many users connected at once.

The ministry said it plans to support the nationwide expansion of 5G-based Wi-Fi on the back of these results.
