Outsourced Security Staff at Korea's Top 3 Banks Jump 19.1% in a Year
Data from KISA shows outsourced information security personnel at KB Kookmin, Shinhan and Woori banks grew more than twice as fast as in-house security hiring.
Outsourced information security personnel at KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank and Woori Bank rose 19.1% year on year, according to data from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). The figures, reported by inews24.com, show outsourced security staff at the three banks climbing from 108.1 in 2024 to 128.8 last year, an increase of 20.7.
In-house dedicated security staff at the same banks grew at less than half that pace, rising 8.3% from 153.9 to 166.7. As a result, the outsourced share of total security personnel at the three banks edged up from 41.3% in 2024 to 43.6% last year.
Woori Bank posted the sharpest increase in outsourced security staff, up 25.9% from 41.3 to 52, the highest growth rate among the three. Shinhan Bank followed with a 22.9% rise, from 35.4 to 43.5, while KB Kookmin Bank's outsourced staff grew 6.1%, from 31.4 to 33.3.
The in-house numbers moved in different directions. KB Kookmin's dedicated security staff fell from 65.7 to 63.4 and Shinhan's declined from 55.7 to 54.3, while Woori's rose 50.8% from 32.5 to 49.
Outsourced workers accounted for 51.5% of Woori Bank's total security personnel last year, compared with 44.5% at Shinhan Bank and 34.4% at KB Kookmin Bank.
