LDraw Nova lets AI agents design LEGO builds as CAD files
Developer Carlos Antelo published the open-source LDraw Nova toolkit on GitHub, which outputs AI-designed LEGO models as LDraw CAD files.
Developer Carlos Antelo released LDraw Nova on GitHub on Friday afternoon, an open-source toolkit that lets AI agents design LEGO builds and export them as LDraw CAD files. The posting marks the project's first release, following three earlier attempts, according to Tom's Hardware.
LDraw Nova runs as a Docker web app and works with OpenAI, Anthropic and OpenRouter providers, so users can connect the models they already have access to.
Among the generated designs is a 2,175-piece Sakura Garden created with Claude, featuring a five-story pagoda, a koi pond and cherry trees. None of the designs produced with the toolkit have been built with real LEGO bricks.
Earlier AI brick projects
The release follows previous experiments in AI-assisted brick design. LegoGPT, now listed as BrickGPT on GitHub, was trained on more than 47,000 LEGO structures and checks designs for physical stability as it generates them.
LDraw Nova takes a different route by targeting the LDraw CAD format, which keeps models inside existing digital brick workflows. Pieces and colors are defined in that format rather than verified against physical parts.
