LG Energy Solution signs 4-year lithium spodumene deal with Elevra
LG Energy Solution will receive 240,000 tons of Canadian lithium spodumene concentrate from Elevra Lithium over four years starting at the end of this year.
LG Energy Solution announced it signed a long-term agreement to secure 240,000 tons of lithium spodumene concentrate from Elevra Lithium. The company will receive the material over four years, starting at the end of this year, according to a report by digitaltoday.co.kr.
The spodumene concentrate will be produced at the North American Lithium (NAL) mine in Quebec, Canada, which is operated by Elevra Lithium.
According to the company, the contracted volume equals about 30,000 tons of lithium hydroxide, enough for batteries in roughly 700,000 high-performance EVs.
Background
LG Energy Solution operates three standalone plants in North America: the Michigan Lansing and Holland plants and the Canada NextStar Energy Ontario plant. With the Honda joint venture L-H Battery Company in Ohio and the GM joint venture Ultium Cells in Tennessee, it has five ESS production bases in North America. The company plans to expand its North American ESS LFP battery production capacity to more than 50GWh by the end of this year. In November last year, NextStar Energy in Windsor, Canada, the country's first large-scale battery plant, began mass production of ESS batteries.
