Microsoft 365 Plans Move to Shared AI Credits and OneDrive Storage

Personal, Family, Premium and Pro subscriptions will pool AI usage credits and OneDrive storage, with Family and Premium dropping to 2 TB of shared space.

Microsoft announced changes to its Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium and Pro subscriptions that will give each plan a shared pool of AI usage credits and a shared OneDrive storage pool, according to zdnet.com. The shift also lowers the total storage included with some plans.

Under the new structure, Microsoft 365 Family and Premium will receive a total of 2 TB of shared storage, replacing the individual storage allowances that currently add up to as much as 6 TB. Microsoft 365 Pro will keep 5 TB of shared storage along with the highest available AI usage limits, at $100 per month.

Family members will be able to share AI usage credits, and the subscription owner will be able to manage AI access for younger family members. Today, Copilot usage credits are available only to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with anyone else on the plan.

Timing for new and existing subscribers

New and upgraded subscriptions will include shared storage starting October 8, 2026. Customers with existing subscriptions will move to shared storage at their first renewal on or after May 2, 2027.

Microsoft 365 Pro was quietly launched in September with 5 TB of shared storage and the highest AI usage limits for $100 a month. The base cost of a Microsoft 365 Family plan is $130 a year, and each additional 1 TB of OneDrive storage costs $10 per month.

Shared storage pools mark a return to a pooling model for Microsoft, which offered unlimited OneDrive storage to Office 365 subscribers in 2014 before reversing that promise a year later.
