Microsoft ends support for Office 2021 on October 13
Microsoft will stop technical support, software updates, bug fixes and security patches for Office 2021, though users can keep running it.
Microsoft has ended support for Office 2021 as of Tuesday, October 13, the company said in a new support document. The change means Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, software updates, bug fixes or security patches for the suite.
Microsoft will also stop updating the online help and support pages for Office 2021. The company notes that users can still use Office 2021 for as long as they want, but they will not receive the usual support and updates.
Office 2021 was released in 2021. The one-time purchase edition of Office historically enjoyed a much longer support period, lasting for 10 years, according to ZDNet.
The end of support follows similar moves for other Office versions. Support ended for Office 2010 in 2020, for Office 2013 in 2023, and for Office 2019 in 2025 after six years.
Microsoft's shift away from older software also affects Windows. On Oct. 15, 2025, support ended for Windows 10 after its debut in 2015. Microsoft is offering its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 users, guaranteeing security updates at least until Oct. 12, 2027.
Windows 11 23H2 is no longer supported. Version 24H2 Home and Pro edition will hit end of support on October 13 of this year. Support for version 25H2 will stop on Oct. 12, 2027, and the new 26H2 edition will be supported until Oct. 10, 2028.
