Miles Plug launches at $99, with membership from $180

The OBD-II device tracks location, driving habits and vehicle health; Miles sells membership separately, paid upfront with no auto-renewal.

Miles launched the Miles Plug on October 19, 2026, an OBD-II device that monitors vehicle location, driving habits and vehicle health, with crash detection and roadside assistance included. The company is selling the device and membership through mileslabs.com, according to The Verge.

The Plug costs $99, with a one-year membership priced at $180 — $279 in total, or $15 a month. A three-year plan costs $396 with the Plug included, roughly $11 a month. All plans are paid upfront, and Miles says there is no auto-renewal.

Miles says the Plug is compatible with most gas and hybrid cars from 2008 onward, along with some EVs. The Miles app includes an AI chatbot called Miles Mechanic, which decodes warning lights and estimates repair costs.

Data handling

The company says it will never sell vehicle, trip or location data and that its app carries no ads. Location data is tied to the car rather than the phone, and users can download their data or delete their account.

Miles was founded by Matt McGovren and Kit Klein, who previously worked at Wink and bring experience from Amazon's Ring and Blink as well as Ubiquiti. The launch lands in a market where automakers have drawn scrutiny over driving data: GM was banned from selling such data to brokers for five years after carmakers were caught collecting and selling it.
