Neurable Launches $499 Brain-Scanning Headphones

Neurable's first in-house brain-scanning headphones, the Neurable One, feature 12 EEG sensors and launch in October for $499.

Neurable unveiled its first in-house brain-scanning headphones, the Neurable One, on Thursday. The headphones feature 12 EEG sensors embedded in their nylon earpads and will cost $499 when they go on sale in October from Neurable's website.

The Neurable One passively monitors brain activity as soon as it is worn, without requiring a session to be started in the app. A new companion app tracks eight brain metrics. The headphones play a ping when they detect distraction and recommend a break when they detect burnout.

The product is not categorized as a medical device.

Earlier this year, Neurable said it planned to license its brain-scanning technology to other gadget makers. A few years ago, the company built its technology into Master & Dynamic headphones. At the start of this year, Neurable showed off a gaming headset with HP's HyperX featuring two EEG sensors.

Previous research with the Mayo Clinic showed a 30 percent increase in focus in individuals using Neurable's headset versus people using Pomodoro techniques, along with about a 10 percent drop in end-of-day burnout. Wired.com reported the launch.
