OpenAI has told people it plans to release hundreds of AI-generated mathematical problem solutions on GitHub, according to people familiar with the plans.
OpenAI spokesperson Lindsay McCallum said the company began training a new internal model on August 28 and that it has resolved more than 100 open mathematics problems. She said no release time has been set.
The planned publication follows an August meeting at which OpenAI convened around 40 mathematicians to discuss what to do if AI outpaces human capabilities in mathematics. People in attendance said the company hinted that its models had solved hundreds of long-standing math problems. Earlier that month, OpenAI published solutions to 10 problems in a blog post or tweet.
In September, OpenAI deployed thousands of agents to solve a Millennium Prize problem, and mathematician Tristan Buckmaster accused the company of front-running his work.
