OpenAI's ChatGPT Chrome Extension Now Reads Your Open Tabs

The upgraded extension places ChatGPT in a Chrome sidebar and lets the assistant view and act on open tabs when tagged in the web or desktop app.

OpenAI has upgraded its ChatGPT extension for Google Chrome so the assistant can view a user's open browser tabs when Chrome is tagged in ChatGPT's web or desktop app, according to theverge.com.

The update brings ChatGPT into a Chrome sidebar with full ChatGPT capability and conversation history from Chat or Work. The extension can also organize or group open tabs.

In a demo video, OpenAI showed ChatGPT comparing three open tabs about sofas a user was considering.

For tasks handled through ChatGPT Work, the extension can control Chrome tabs — for example, sending messages, filling out forms, and downloading files, OpenAI said.
