OpenAI resets ChatGPT and Codex usage limits again for all users

The reset applies by 2:00 a.m. JST on October 24 and covers the 5-hour and weekly limits shared by Codex and Work, but not Chat conversations.

OpenAI will reset ChatGPT usage limits for all users by 2:00 a.m. JST on October 24, the company's Thibault Sottiaux announced on X, according to pc.watch.impress.co.jp. It is the second consecutive reset and the seventh overall, and comes alongside a small feature addition.

The reset covers the 5-hour and weekly usage limits shared by Codex and Work. It does not apply to Chat conversations.

Sottiaux also pointed to other work in progress, including the Decisions API reaching general availability, OpenResponses joining the Linux Foundation, performance improvements, and Uber adopting Codex and Work.

A plan built around daily improvements

In October 2026, Sottiaux announced a 28-day plan to deliver one clear improvement per day for most users, with a usage-limit reset on days when no improvement is delivered. The new reset falls on day 18 of that plan.

Over the plan's first 17 days, there were 11 improvements and 6 resets, according to the same announcement.
