OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-Live-1.1 Voice Model to ChatGPT, Codex and dots

OpenAI's GPT-Live-1.1 adds voices in Korean, French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish and Japanese, plus a new English voice called Bubbie.

OpenAI released the voice model GPT-Live-1.1 and upgraded the voice features of ChatGPT, Codex and its personal AI agent dots to the new model, according to aitimes.com. The rollout covers all users starting October 15, 2026.

The update adds new voices in Korean, French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish and Japanese, and improves per-language accents so they sound more natural. A new English voice option named Bubbie was also added. OpenAI notes that available voices may differ by region and account.

The company applies GPT-Live-1.1 together with its lightweight version, GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, to ChatGPT voice mode. The update also reduces the waiting time caused by the "checking..." notice shown while users wait for responses: during voice conversations, a range of short phrases now indicates progress when search or information checking is underway instead of repeated waiting notices.

To select a new voice, users open Settings and then Voice in ChatGPT settings and choose the voice they want. An API version for developers will be provided later.
