Poznote open-source note app ships with AI assistant and Docker setup

The self-hostable browser app stores rich text as HTML and Markdown as Markdown files, and adds an AI assistant backed by OpenAI, Claude or Ollama.

Poznote, a free and open-source note-taking app designed to be self-hosted and run in a browser at localhost:8040, has been introduced publicly along with its GitHub repository and a demo site, according to Gigazine.

The app covers rich text notes, Markdown notes, task lists, a kanban view, a dashboard, a diary and a graph view of linked notes. Rich text notes are saved as HTML files and Markdown notes as Markdown files, so other editors can open them, and Markdown notes can preview Mermaid flowcharts and LaTeX formulas.

An AI Assistant can be enabled through OpenAI, Claude or Ollama endpoints to search, summarize, create, edit and tag notes. A Chrome extension called Poznote URL Saver saves the current page's URL or a full-page screenshot as a note, and the app can be added to a phone's home screen as a PWA or receive URLs from Android's share menu.

Backups and deployment

Backups can be exported as ZIP files or scheduled automatically to GitHub, GitLab, Forgejo or S3-compatible storage. The app can be self-hosted with Docker Compose using a template .env file and docker-compose.yml from the GitHub repository.

The default login is admin_change_me / admin and must be changed on first use. A public demo is available at demo.poznote.com, where the login and password are both set to poznote.
