PS2 and Xbox Emulator Ports Built for Jailbroken PS5

PS5X2 and XPSemu bring PS2 and Xbox emulation to jailbroken PS5 consoles, while a Wine port called PS5 Proton has no public releases yet.

Ports of the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator and the xemu Xbox emulator exist for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, according to Hackaday. The two projects are named PS5X2 and XPSemu respectively.

PS5X2 supports GPU acceleration through the Vulkan API via the PS5Vulkan project. Many PS2 games run at full speed at multiple times their original resolution, according to the report.

XPSemu has reached Alpha 1 with limited game compatibility, though Halo 2 reportedly runs well. A separate project called PS5 Proton (PP) is porting Wine to the PS5 and has no public releases yet.

Neither emulator supports running games directly from original DVDs. Games must be stored as disc images on the PS5's SSD.

Older consoles were more specialized

The PlayStation 3 and earlier consoles were rather specialized hardware, unlike the x86-based PlayStation 5.
