Raspberry Pi 4 Powers Telegram Photo Frame for Family

Maker Jonalus built a wooden frame with a 10.1-inch display that shows photos, videos and voice notes sent to a family Telegram group.

Jonalus has published a project that turns a Raspberry Pi 4 into a wooden picture frame showing family photos, videos and voice notes sent to a Telegram group, with the source code shared on GitHub, according to xda-developers.com.

The frame houses a 10.1-inch HDMI display, speakers, a Raspberry Pi 4 and a 4G dongle. Messages arrive through a bot connected to a Telegram group, so family members can send media to the frame without setting up a separate app.

Interaction is limited to four buttons: previous, hold-to-record reply, listen again and next. There is no touchscreen and no menus, which keeps the device simple for less technical users.

Replying to a photo with a voice note makes the frame pair the two together, so the picture and the message play as one item.

Jonalus's grandmother has had the frame for a couple of weeks and uses it every day, according to the report.
