REA GitHub repo climbs to 280,000 stars in October 2026

The GitHub repository REA reached about 280,000 stars and about 70,000 forks as of October 16, 2026, after passing 100,000 stars on October 12, 2026, according to ZDNet Korea. REA stands for Reverse Engineer Anything.

REA works as a middle layer that connects analysis tools such as Ghidra or IDA to AI coding agents including Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. It can target PC programs such as the Notion desktop app, Android apps, websites and saved communication records, and installs with a single command.

In an official example, REA 6.1.0 recovered the 6-digit code generation rule of the open-source Android authenticator app Aegis on October 9, 2026, after searching 3,077 code bundles in the installation file. The rewritten code matched 133 tests and RFC 6238 reference values, according to the project.

Browser agents and access questions

Tencent's BrowserSkill, released in 2026, had about 9,000 GitHub stars as of October 16, 2026. The tool lends a user's already logged-in Chrome or Edge browser to an AI agent through a bsk command, a relay program and a browser extension. Its documentation warns that the agent window is neither a separate account nor a security sandbox.

Agent features in browsers have been developing for about two years. Anthropic released Claude for Chrome as a beta on August 26, 2025, and OpenAI launched ChatGPT Atlas on October 21, 2025. Atlas ended service on August 9, 2026, with its features moving into the ChatGPT app and a Chrome extension, while Perplexity offers its Comet browser with an AI agent.

REA was created on April 14, 2026 and had fewer than 10,000 stars until October 6, 2026. Under Korean copyright law Article 101-4, reverse analysis is permitted only to the extent necessary for interoperability.
