Robots Race Up Mount Tai in 3.8 km Climbing Contest
Quadruped and wheel-leg robots tackled more than 3,100 stone steps in rainy conditions during the ranking round, etnews.com reported.
A ranking round of the World Robot Mount Tai Climbing Competition was held on Mount Tai in China's Shandong Province on October 26, with quadruped robots and machines combining wheels with legs taking part, according to etnews.com.
The course covered about 3.8 km and included more than 3,100 stone steps, along with steep slopes and narrow paths. Rain on the day left the route slippery as the robots were judged on mobility, balance and obstacle-crossing performance.
A separate contest at the event required robots to carry eggs and bottled water up the mountain, then swap the cargo for medicine and rescue supplies at a midpoint.
