Root to presell NODI smartphone strap at Yokohama Takashimaya
The 8,250 yen shoulder strap uses Mitsui Chemicals' ABSORTOMER core and goes on sale online in late November 2026.
Root, the bag brand of Shimada Shoji Co., Ltd., will hold a presale of its smartphone shoulder strap NODI at the Yokohama Takashimaya 4th-floor handbag POP UP SHOP from October 28 to November 3, 2026, the company announced. The strap is priced at 8,250 yen including tax.
The official Root online store is scheduled to begin selling NODI in late November 2026. The product comes in six colors.
NODI uses ABSORTOMER, a material supplied by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., as the core of its round cord. According to the companies, ABSORTOMER softens with human body warmth and gradually conforms to the shape of the area it contacts.
Test data behind the cord
The core material has vibration-damping properties, with a DMA measurement showing a tan-delta peak of about 2.8 at 25°C. In a stress-relaxation comparison test, the tension of the cord with the core material dropped to about 37% of its maximum after 10 minutes, against about 69% for an ordinary cord.
Shimada Shoji was founded in 1887 and has a 139-year history as an apparel sewing materials trading company. Mitsui Chemicals measured the core material's DMA on October 7, 2026, and the Osaka Industrial Technology Research Institute's Morinomiya Center issued its stress-relaxation test report on October 16, 2026.
Root said it plans to expand the cord technology to bags and camera straps.
