Samsung Rolls Out SmartThings Now, Local Controls and Matter 1.6
The SmartThings update adds SmartThings Now, a feature that surfaces personalized suggestions at the top of the Home tab, plus Wi-Fi local controls and Matter 1.6 support.
Samsung has released an update to its SmartThings platform apps across multiple platforms, according to Android Authority. The update introduces SmartThings Now, a summarization feature that surfaces personalized information and actionable suggestions at the top of the Home tab.
SmartThings Now bases its suggestions on a user's location, usage patterns and past activity, and prioritizes routines. The revamped Home interface also adds a floating bar that places frequently used functions near the bottom of the screen, along with a wallpaper that changes dynamically with the weather.
Local controls and Matter 1.6
SmartThings now supports local controls, so devices can be operated over Wi-Fi without internet connectivity. The update also adds support for Matter 1.6, which improves security between interacting devices.
The updated SmartThings UI is available on Android and on smart appliances, including Samsung smart TVs and refrigerators with 7- or 9-inch displays and Smart Hub support.
The iOS SmartThings interface was refreshed last week, before this broader rollout. Samsung's Family Care, a telemonitoring and caregiving feature, is one of the tools SmartThings Now can use to nudge users to check on family members showing no activity.
