Schenker Raises Laptop Prices as DDR5 SO-DIMM Costs Jump Sixfold

Schenker has raised prices across most of its gaming laptop lineup, citing a sixfold increase in DDR5 SO-DIMM prices since July 2025. The German manufacturer, which sells under the XMG brand, said most gaming models now cost 100 to 200 euros more, while one professional laptop model rose by 300 euros.
The increases are not limited to memory. XMG said PCBs, electronic components, CPUs, graphics cards and video memory are all under cost pressure. Desktop RAM prices have reportedly climbed about 500 percent over the past 12 months.
Schenker attributed part of the rise to higher air freight and cargo insurance costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East. The company said its own margins are fixed and that the price hikes reflect higher upstream costs rather than added profit.
Not every vendor is moving in the same direction. Framework recently cut memory prices for the Laptop 13 Pro after finding a cheaper LPCAMM2 source, showing that sourcing decisions can still work in buyers' favor.
Industry forecasts offer little short-term relief. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra expects DRAM shortages to continue into 2027, while Asus CEO Jason Chen predicts component prices will only start reversing in the second half of that year. The situation was first reported by tomshardware.com.
