Sigma unveils 50mm F1.4 CL DG lens for early spring 2027
The full-frame prime joins Sigma's new CL line within the I series and arrives in Sony E and L mounts with a new RDD autofocus actuator.
Sigma announced the Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG | Contemporary, a full-frame prime lens, on October 23. The company says the lens is scheduled to go on sale in early spring 2027, with the price and exact release date still to be announced.
It will be offered in Sony E and L mounts. The Sony E version comes in Black, while the L mount version comes in Silver and Black.
The CL line is a new series within Sigma's premium compact prime I series, aimed at soft rendering and rich gradation. The optical construction is 9 elements in 6 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and 1 FLD Glass element, with a full-group focus extension design.
Autofocus uses a newly developed RDD (Rotary Direct Drive) actuator. Manual focus engages immediately by turning the focus ring during AF operation, according to Sigma.
The body is all-metal with a dust- and splash-resistant structure and a Water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element. Specifications include 14 rounded aperture blades, minimum aperture F16, minimum focus distance 0.45m, maximum magnification 1:6.8, a 52mm filter thread and a weight of 375g.
