Skyfall AI unveils SKY-001 world model for CAD and BIM design

Skyfall AI's SKY-001 turns text or 2D sketches into CAD and BIM designs, and in the company's own benchmark ran about 50 times faster than GPT-6 Astra.

US company Skyfall AI on October 19 unveiled SKY-001, a world model that automates the design of complex physical products from text prompts or 2D sketches, according to aitimes.com. The system is being shown as an early research preview.

SKY-001 produces hierarchical designs and step-by-step manufacturing plans that can be executed in CAD and BIM software. It works in two stages: a Hierarchical Composer that splits an overall design into components, and a Construction World Model that predicts the visual modeling steps for each part.

In Skyfall AI's own benchmark on CAD part generation with 1,000 components, SKY-001 cost $0.005 per generation against $0.75 for GPT-6 Astra and $0.25 to $0.59 for rival models. It scored 79.7% IoU versus 79.1% for GPT-6 Astra, while running about 50 times faster at roughly 1/150 the cost.

On a BIM floor-plan benchmark of 1,000 plans, SKY-001 was about 120 times faster than GPT-6 Astra at about 1/185 the cost, with IoU of 43.6% versus 40.6%.

Training data and release plans

Skyfall AI says training used more than 200,000 CAD parts, over 600,000 construction cases, 35,000 real and synthetic floor plans and 2 million drawing generation steps. CEO Sam Pasupalak said replacing indiscriminate LLM calls with a long-horizon planning world model will sharply cut token costs.

A commercial release is planned for early 2027. Future plans include natural-language part editing in CAD, editable building models in BIM, and expansion to PCB and other hardware design. According to the article, existing generative AI models can render 3D shapes visually but struggle with component hierarchies, mechanical constraints and design history, and cannot guarantee manufacturability.

Quick answers

When will SKY-001 be commercially available?

Skyfall AI plans a commercial release for early 2027; SKY-001 is currently an early research preview.

How does SKY-001 compare with GPT-6 Astra?

In Skyfall AI's own CAD benchmark with 1,000 components, SKY-001 scored 79.7% IoU versus 79.1% for GPT-6 Astra and ran about 50 times faster at roughly 1/150 the cost.

What does SKY-001 do?

It generates hierarchical designs and step-by-step manufacturing plans from text or 2D sketches, which can be executed in CAD and BIM software.
