Sony Unveils Three New Walkman Players, Led by $5,899 Gold Model

Sony's NW-ZX900, NW-WM1AM3 and gold-plated NW-WM1ZM3 all include the DSD Remastering Engine and gold-plated rear chassis.

Sony announced three new Walkman portable media players, led by the gold-plated NW-WM1ZM3 at $5,899, according to theverge.com. The lineup starts at $1,899.99 for the NW-ZX900, while the NW-WM1AM3 is priced at $2,999.99.

The NW-WM1AM3 is nearly identical to the WM1ZM3 minus the gold shell. The WM1ZM3's entire chassis is made of oxygen-free copper and then gold-plated, whereas all three players have gold-plating on the rear chassis to reduce interference and lower noise.

The NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3 add hand-soldered oxygen-free copper wiring and upgraded power circuitry. All three models feature Sony's DSD Remastering Engine, which upsamples standard PCM audio to an 11.2MHz DSD stream.

As background, the previous gold model, the NW-WM1ZM2, is on sale now for $2,599.99.
