Suunto Core 2 outdoor watch launches October 22 at 39,600 yen
The Core 2 drops GPS and smartwatch features for up to 15 months of battery life, with a brighter 1.3-inch display and 10 ATM water resistance.
SUUNTO Japan will release the Suunto Core 2 outdoor watch on October 22, priced at 39,600 yen, according to watch.impress.co.jp. The watch is a battery-powered model focused on outdoor instruments rather than smartwatch functions.
The Core 2 runs for up to about 15 months on a user-replaceable CR3032 battery and has no charging function. It carries an altimeter, barometer and compass, but no GPS or smartwatch features. Bluetooth is included for time sync, step sync and updates.
The display is a 1.3-inch LED screen that switches between red and green and is roughly 40% brighter than the previous model. Water resistance rises from 3 ATM to 10 ATM, and the watch passes MIL-STD-810 tests for high temperature, high humidity, salt spray, sand and dust, and low pressure. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C.
The digital compass supports bearing lock and magnetic declination adjustment, and a storm alert sounds when a rapid drop in air pressure is detected. Other functions include a pedometer, dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer and daily alarm.
The case measures 49mm in diameter and 14.84mm thick, weighs 74g and uses a 22mm silicone strap.
Successor to a 2007 design
The original Suunto Core was released in 2007, about 19 years before this model change.
