TikTok Adds AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Checkout
TikTok's new conversational agent handles product discovery, while in-feed checkout lets users buy from brands without leaving the app.
TikTok announced an AI shopping assistant called Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent for product discovery and purchases, alongside a one-click in-app checkout feature that lets users buy directly from brands in the For You feed. The company announced both features on October 5, 2026, according to TechCrunch.
TikTok said the new features were built with commerce platforms and payment providers including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.
The checkout feature is designed to complete a purchase without leaving the For You feed, while Shopping Assistant is positioned as a conversational tool for finding products rather than a search box.
Prior commerce groundwork
TikTok Shop launched in the U.S. in September 2023. In the week before the announcement, TikTok's Economic Impact Report said platform activity helped generate $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses and that 54 million Americans said they purchased a product after watching a TikTok video. The market research firm eMarketer estimates TikTok Shop generated about $15.8 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, roughly 18% of all U.S. social commerce.
