TypeSafe's Jev Followed by Rival AI Decision Models
Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon and others released decision-model products weeks after TypeSafe's Jev, while a researcher claims his work predates it.
TypeSafe's release of Jev, a decision-model API, was followed within weeks by competing products from several major AI companies, according to tomshardware.com. Microsoft released Microsoft Decision and OpenAI released OpenAI Decisions API in that period, along with Fastino Glide, Cloudflare Clef, Perplexity Decider and Amazon's Strands Decider 2B. Cloudflare Clef and Perplexity Decider were released with open weights, while Amazon's Strands Decider 2B is an open-source decider model.
Many of the Jev-like projects are based on Alibaba's open-source Qwen model, with added layers for input, output and decision-making.
Researcher Nandakishor Mukkunnoth, founder of ConvAI Innovations, claimed in a blog post that he designed the Jev architecture a year before TypeSafe. He said he was overlooked because his idea was built for a vertical use case. Around the same time as his blog post, Mukkunnoth released the open-source model Laya.
Mukkunnoth previously published an arXiv paper on SalesRLAgent on March 30, 2025, describing a model for probability estimation, and followed up with a September paper that more closely aligns with how Jev operates, according to the background. Both TypeSafe and Mukkunnoth called their models 'System 1/One' types, likely referencing Daniel Kahneman's book Thinking, Fast and Slow.
TypeSafe's Earlier Release
TypeSafe released Jev as a complete, hosted product with its own servers, API, documentation, developer kits and pricing. The company also released a description of its System One architecture shortly after Jev. The spate of rival releases came after Jev, though the facts do not establish that Jev directly caused them.
