Unitree says it is building self-evolving AI for its humanoid robots

Unitree founder Wang Xingxing says the goal is robots that write their own code and simulations, with humans giving feedback on performance.

Unitree says it is developing an AI system called Unitree Rehearsal that would let its humanoid robots improve themselves with less human engineering input, according to techradar.com. The company's founder, Wang Xingxing, said the aim is for robots to write their own code and simulations, while humans continue to give feedback and assess how well they perform.

Wang also said Unitree robots could be cleaning rooms as early as next year. The company did not give a date for when Unitree Rehearsal would be available or which of its robots would use it.

The announcement comes as several humanoid robot makers report progress on production. Tesla's Elon Musk said Optimus production lines are now running in Fremont, California, after an electric-vehicle factory there was repurposed. Musk said output could ramp up to around 20,000 robots per week by 2027, though he added that further engineering work is required.

Musk also said engineers are still working on Optimus's design for safety and reliability, and that the robots currently struggle to complete varied tasks independently.

Figure reports production and data milestones

At Figure, CEO Brett Adcock said the company's roadmap has completely changed over the last year and that Figure 03 production is now in four figures. Figure said fingertip tracking has reached millimeter-level precision and that 37.5 million videos have been uploaded to its Index data-collection app. The company also said a Figure 03 robot walked for nine days straight on a treadmill at its headquarters.

Tesla had previously disclosed Optimus production progress in its shareholder update in the third quarter of 2026.
