US-linked Bitcoin wallet moves another 12,267 BTC

The transfer followed a $770 million move to a Coinbase Prime wallet the same day. Arkham Research links the address to 2016 Bitfinex hack funds.

A Bitcoin wallet linked to the US government has moved more than 12,267 BTC, according to digitaltoday.co.kr. The transfer came the same day the US government moved $770 million worth of Bitcoin to a Coinbase Prime wallet.

The owner of the address receiving the additional transfer had not been identified at the time of writing.

Arkham Research analyzed that the wallet is connected to funds recovered from the 2016 Bitfinex hack. As of 2026, the US government is estimated to hold 328,372 BTC seized through criminal cases and investigations.

Background

In 2016, hackers stole 119,756 BTC in the Bitfinex hack. In March 2025, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a strategic Bitcoin and cryptocurrency reserve, while Congress continues working to codify it into law.
