Microsoft Adds Remote PC Connections to Windows App
The Windows App on Windows now supports connecting to a Windows PC remotely, joining Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box.
Microsoft has made remote PC connections generally available in the Windows App on Windows, according to windowscentral.com. The feature lets users connect to a Windows PC remotely, alongside the service's existing support for Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box.
The expanded feature set of the Windows App entered testing in March. With general availability, the capability is now open to all users of the app on Windows rather than a limited test group.
The change follows the retirement of the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store, which led to remote PC connections arriving in the Windows App. The classic Remote Desktop Connection tool, mstsc.exe, remains supported.
What stays the same
Users who rely on the classic Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc.exe) tool can continue to use it, as Microsoft has not retired that utility. The Windows App now covers remote PC connections in addition to Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box.
