Wing and Walmart to Bring Drone Delivery to Denver and Seattle in 2027
The two companies also plan to eventually offer drone delivery from more than 270 Walmart stores across the US.
Wing and Walmart will begin drone delivery operations in the Denver and Seattle metro areas in 2027, the companies announced. The expansion adds two more markets to a service that is currently available in five US metropolitan areas.
Wing's drones can travel at speeds of up to 60 mph and carry payloads weighing up to 5 pounds. Walmart customers in eligible areas can select drone delivery as an option on the retailer's app or website, while consumers can also place orders through Wing's own app.
The companies said they aim to eventually offer drone delivery from more than 270 Walmart stores across the country.
Wing and Walmart's drone deliveries currently operate in five metropolitan areas: Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Dallas–Fort Worth; Houston; and Orlando, Florida, according to Engadget. The companies have also named 14 other destinations for future expansion, among them Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Walmart is not the only retailer moving into the air. DoorDash recently revealed more details about its own drone service, DoorDash Air, which will debut in northern California with partners including Chipotle and Popeyes.
