YouTube Music to Label AI-Generated Tracks
YouTube Music announced a labeling system for songs made with generative AI, covering composition and vocals, on its app and main YouTube.
YouTube Music announced the rollout of a labeling system designed to identify songs created with generative AI, including AI used in composition and vocals. The labels will appear on the player page and can be clicked for more detail about AI's role in a track's creation, and they will also appear in the main YouTube app, according to techcrunch.com.
YouTube said it worked with music partners and used its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. Its help page lists three partner designations: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, and No Gen AI.
Tracks that use pitch-correction tools such as Auto-Tune fall under the No Gen AI category, according to the designations. AI involvement alone does not make a track ineligible for monetization on YouTube.
Other platforms' labeling efforts
Apple Music has plans to introduce "Made With AI" labels as part of its AI Transparency Tags later this year, while Spotify also has AI labels as well as a music spam filter.
In July, Deezer reported it was receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks daily. TIDAL labels recordings it identifies as entirely AI-generated, allows listeners to disable them, and excludes these recordings from royalty attribution.
YouTube has experimented with AI-powered music creation, including its tool Dream Track, which lets select creators generate soundtracks featuring AI-generated versions of participating artists' voices.
