Zotac RTX 5090 shipment worth $470,000 missing at São Paulo airport
Brazilian distributor Oderço says two pallets of Zotac RTX 5090 GPUs vanished at Guarulhos International Airport and it has received no official response.
Brazilian electronics and IT distributor Oderço said a shipment of Zotac RTX 5090 graphics cards valued at roughly $470,000 (R$2,500,000) went missing at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, according to Tom's Hardware. The company said two pallets of GPUs were expected to arrive at the airport but then disappeared.
Oderço said it has received no official response to its inquiries about the shipment. The company described the incident as the first of its kind in its 38-year history.
The loss comes amid wider strain on supply of the RTX 5090. In mid-September, the card disappeared from online retailers amid global shortages, and rumours circulated that Nvidia had stopped producing it to focus on pricier professional AI cards — a claim Nvidia denies.
Pricing for the card remains high. A Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 is listed at about $8,000 on Amazon and at R$33,999.99 at Brazilian online retailer Promotech, while US retailer Micro Center is listed as not carrying the card.
High-value GPU shipments have been targeted before: previous thefts include a crew ramming security escorts to hijack an AI hardware shipment, and another group stealing two trailers marked with the Nvidia logo that contained sand.
