Game Freak developing original magical girl RPG Ame Nochi Hare Onna

Shigeru Ohmori is directing a free-to-play mobile RPG where magical girls fight garbage-shaped yokai and outfits dry in real time based on real-world weather.

Shigeru Ohmori, a long-time director at Game Freak, is developing a completely original magical girl RPG titled Ame Nochi Hare Onna, according to gamesradar.com. The game is a free-to-play mobile title with turn-based combat.

In Ame Nochi Hare Onna, players build a team of magical girls who fight garbage-shaped yokai spirits. The characters' powers are tied to outfits that get dirty and must be washed, then dried in real time, with drying speed affected by real-life weather.

Ohmori said the goal was to explore the concept of bishojo characters and make a game rooted in everyday reality. He discussed the project in an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which was translated by Automaton.

Ohmori's prior work

Ohmori has worked on Pokemon games since the original Ruby and Sapphire in 2002 and has directed the series since Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire over a decade later. He also worked on Drill Dozer, a 2006 rumble-powered GBA platformer, and HarmoKnight, a 2013 rhythm platformer released on the 3DS eShop.

There is no word yet on whether Ame Nochi Hare Onna will be released outside of Japan.
