Ascendance of a Bookworm Sequel Anime Announced, WIT Studio Returns

A sequel television anime adaptation of Miya Kazuki's Honzuki no Gekokujou (Ascendance of a Bookworm) light novel series is in production. The new series will adapt the fourth part of the novels, subtitled Kizoku-in no Jishou Tosho Iin (A Self-Proclaimed Library Committee Member of the Nobility), and will be produced by WIT Studio.

The announcement followed the broadcast of the 24th and final episode of Honzuki no Gekokujou: Ryoushu no Youjo on Saturday, according to myanimelist.net.

The franchise's earlier anime seasons were produced by Ajia-Do and aired in Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Spring 2022. A side story original video anime was bundled with the 22nd volume in March 2020. The fourth season, produced by WIT Studio, premiered on April 4.

Crunchyroll simulcast the show with subtitles and later began streaming an English dub. Sentai Filmworks licensed the first two seasons and released them on home video in January 2021.

Miya Kazuki penned the light novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website from September 2013 to March 2017. TO Books began publishing the novel with illustrations by You Shiina in January 2015, and the 33rd volume shipped in December 2023.

The manga adaptation has been serialized in parts: Suzuka drew the first part from October 2015 to July 2018, the second part began in September of that year and had thirteen volumes in print as of September 2025, Ryou Namino launched the third part in April 2018, and Hikaru Katsuki began the fourth part in December 2020. The 12th volume of the fourth part was published on April 15.
