Podcast Hosts Float Uncle Iroh Spinoff 'Dragon of the West'
Dante Basco and Janet Varney discussed a hypothetical Iroh series on the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast, with an Avatar Studios coordinator warning a younger Iroh would be darker.
Dante Basco, who voices Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender, said on the Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast that when fans ask which Avatar show he would like to see, his answer is a spinoff titled "Dragon of the West." The remark came during a conversation with co-host Janet Varney, the voice of Korra, about a hypothetical series centred on Uncle Iroh.
Varney raised a question about the premise: whether the most powerful Firebender version of Iroh would still be the warm, wise character fans know from the original series. Avatar Studios coordinator Pramodh Manian noted that Iroh fought on the Fire Nation side of the war for a long time, so an Iroh in his prime might not be the Uncle Iroh viewers have in mind.
According to cbr.com, Basco and Manian both said such a spinoff would be a cool show to see. The discussion remained hypothetical, and no Iroh spinoff has been confirmed as a production.
Iroh's history in the original series
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Iroh served as uncle, mentor and father figure to Prince Zuko. Before the series, he was a Fire Nation general and former Crown Prince, losing his place in the line of succession after his son died in the war and Ozai took the throne. He also led the Siege of Ba Sing Se during his military career.
"Dragon of the West" is one of Iroh's epithets in the franchise, the title Basco proposed for a spinoff.
