Sony launches Crunchyroll Storyworks anime-to-live-action unit

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the launch of Crunchyroll Storyworks, a new division of Crunchyroll that will adapt global stories into anime and Japanese anime into live action, according to Deadline.

The division will be led by Tohru Iokibe, a 25-year veteran of Sony Corp. Iokibe will report to Crunchyroll Chief Content Officer Asa Suehira.

Storyworks will operate within Crunchyroll's content group and will seek greenlight-ready projects for HAYATE, Crunchyroll's joint venture with Aniplex.

The announcement was made during Crunchyroll's Anime Future Forum, held at the North Javits Center.

Sony Pictures closed its $1.2 billion acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021, combining it with Funimation. Crunchyroll surpassed 21 million subscribers earlier this year.
