Actor-turned-animator Daimon Takashi develops series with US firm
The 2024 Tokyo Anime Pitch Grand Prix winner, who had no animation experience, is now producing a series with a US company after pitching at Annecy's MIFA.
The actor and animation creator Daimon Takashi, who won the 2024 Tokyo Anime Pitch Grand Prix without prior experience, contacts or English skills in the animation industry, is now developing an animated series with a US company, according to gamebusiness.jp. He spoke about the project in an interview with the outlet.
Daimon attended MIFA, the market held alongside the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, with support from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. At the market he held meetings with about 40 companies, according to the interview.
He also works as a creator on the commercial anime Megami "Isekai Tensei Nani ni Naritai desu ka" Ore "Yuusha no Rokkotsu de", in which the production company S.o.K is involved.
From live-action shorts to animation
In the 2010s Daimon made live-action short films with fellow actors for promotional purposes and entered them in festivals. When filming stopped during the coronavirus pandemic, he began drawing on an iPad and moved into animation. His 2020 short Issho ni Netaroka? won an award at TBS's DigiCon6, and in 2022 he made Manga Girls, a short mixing live action, animation and manga.
A contact he met through DigiCon6 introduced him to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's support programme, which led to his 2024 Grand Prix win. At Annecy, the programme provided him with interpretation and promotional items.
Tokyo's Animation Overseas Step-Up Programme is free to join and accepts projects still at the planning stage.
