Dragon Ball merchandise and remake shift to Toyotarou's manga art
Capsule Corp Tokyo's Dragon Ball output now uses Toyotarou's artwork as its main reference, from T-shirts to the Beerus remake, according to cbr.com.
Dragon Ball is now being led by Dragon Ball Super manga artist Toyotarou, and official merchandise and promotional art are using his artwork as their main reference instead of creator Akira Toriyama's, according to cbr.com. The shift is visible across T-shirts, collectible cards and the Dragon Ball Super: Beerus anime remake.
A new official T-shirt depicts Ultra Instinct Goku based on Toyotarou's version of the character from Chapter 41 of the Dragon Ball Super manga. New Diramix lamincard cards use a Goku and Vegeta Super Saiyan Blue pose taken from his cover art for France's combined Volume 1 and 2 release.
Remake brings manga-only moments to anime
The Dragon Ball Super: Beerus remake adds scenes that previously appeared only in Toyotarou's manga. A pre-release trailer showed Goku using Super Saiyan God against Frieza, a moment that had existed only in Toyotarou's 3-page manga adaptation, and Episode 1 includes Goku's image training against Frieza, Cell and Buu, also previously manga-only.
An anime adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Arc, a storyline written by Toyotarou, is also in the works. New episodes of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus release every Sunday on Crunchyroll and Hulu, then the following Saturday on Netflix.
Toyotarou had already been writing full arcs of Dragon Ball Super before Toriyama's death. In February 2015, Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104, the first chapter he drew without Toriyama's editorial assistance, was released, and the manga has been on indefinite hiatus since then.
