Fukui Hints REBEL3199 May Continue After Final Chapter
The chief director said in an interview that another Be Forever Yamato: REBEL3199 installment could follow Chapter 7: Rainbow Samsara.
Chief director Harutoshi Fukui has suggested that the Be Forever Yamato: REBEL3199 series may not end with its current final chapter, according to an interview reported by Mantan Web. His remark came as Chapter 7: Rainbow Samsara, the closing entry in the seven-part series, opened in Japanese theaters on October 30, 2026.
Fukui did not announce a new production, and no further details about a possible follow-up were given in the interview.
The Yamato franchise is also preparing a separate project. A new animated feature film, Space Battleship Yamato √2199, was announced in early October 2026, with Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi as co-directors.
Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, founder of Production I.G, is helping to develop √2199, which shares its title line with the 2012-2013 series Space Battleship Yamato 2199 that Izubuchi worked on.
The original Space Battleship Yamato anime aired in Japan from 1974 to 1975.
