The Japan Anniversary Association has designated October 10 as Gintama Day, the franchise announced. The date coincides with the birthday of protagonist Gintoki Sakata.
The announcement was made during a September 26 stage event for the Cho Enjo version of the Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames Arc reanimated film, which opened in Japan on September 25.
Voice actors Tomokazu Sugita, Daisuke Sakaguchi and Rie Kugimiya attended the event, along with former Gintama editor Kohei Onishi and anime producer Hiromitsu Higuchi. Sugita received the official anniversary registration certificate on behalf of the franchise.
Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2018 and later in Jump Giga until February 2019. The anime was animated by Sunrise until Season 4, after which Bandai Namco Pictures took over, spanning 367 episodes plus OVAs, movies, games, novels and specials.
