Iwanami Shoten will publish the Studio Ghibli-edited volume with 258 image boards, including 90 shown for the first time, on December 3, 2026.
Iwanami Shoten announced that 'Hayao Miyazaki Image Board Collection 7: Princess Mononoke', edited by Studio Ghibli, will go on sale on December 3, 2026, according to animeanime.jp. The volume gathers image boards by director Hayao Miyazaki for the 1997 Studio Ghibli film.
The book contains 258 image boards in total, among them boards from the early-concept version and 90 images published for the first time. It runs 184 pages and carries the ISBN 978-4-00-028837-8, priced at 6,000 yen plus tax.
An interview with Studio Ghibli's Toshio Suzuki appears at the end of the book, touching on subjects including the original landscape of Tatara-ba and the image behind the character Eboshi.
Eiichiro Oda, author of the manga 'ONE PIECE', has provided a recommendation comment for the release.
Early-concept boards predate the film
The early-setting image boards date back to work on a planned film version of 'Princess Mononoke'. A picture book of that early-concept material was published in 1993 with text written by Miyazaki himself, but the film plan stalled after he said the theme was already outdated. Miyazaki later moved toward new territory after making the short film 'On Your Mark', which led to Princess Mononoke being released in 1997.
