Rome's MIA Market Closes With New Animation Gap-Financing Forum

The 12th edition of the Rome market presented over 100 projects from 43 countries and launched a European Investment Hub, according to cartoonbrew.com.

The 12th edition of the Rome MIA Market closed over the weekend, having introduced a new gap-financing market dedicated to animated series and a European Investment Hub, according to cartoonbrew.com.

MIA 2026 presented more than 100 projects from 43 countries. For the first edition of the animation gap-financing market, projects from 24 countries were submitted, and 19 projects from 15 countries were selected.

The European Investment Hub was launched at this year's edition to connect public institutions, private investors, funds and financial institutions.

Among the projects pitched was Storie in Viaggio (Stories on the Run) from La Sarraz Pictures, an anthology of Italian myths and folklore in which each episode is made by a different animator in a different style.

MIA director Gaia Tridente said commissioners are becoming more selective and financing structures more complex. Industry uncertainty was also a theme at the market, following large layoffs at Netflix and mergers among studios.
