Earlier Gear 5 history
Almost five years before the article, Kaido defeated Luffy several times before Luffy awakened his Devil Fruit and unlocked Gear 5. Luffy's Devil Fruit was later revealed to be the Mythical Zoan Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, renamed by the World Government to hide its true name. Since fighting Kaido, Luffy has used Gear 5 to defeat Marine Admiral Kizaru and to fight the Five Elders.
During the Impel Down arc, Zoan Devil Fruit users who lost control to their fruits' animalistic nature became brainless hulking jailers. In Elbaph's main battle, Gear 5 Luffy and Loki teamed up to strike Imu.
