The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival has announced its full lineup, and for the first time in the event's history an animated film will compete for its top prize. Magic Atlas, a feature by Chinese artist Sun Xun, will screen in the competition section, marking a first for the festival.
The festival's animation program also includes Cherry & Virgin, Iron Boy, We Are Aliens, Forgotten Island, and Ghost – End of Night.
Ghost – End of Night, the feature debut of director Shingo Natsume, will hold its Japanese premiere at the festival.
An Animation Symposium is scheduled for November 1 and November 3.
