TV Tokyo Holdings invests $2 million in anime licensing platform AniBiz.com

The Japanese broadcaster is backing US company Nakama, which runs the licensing marketplace launched in July 2026 to simplify anime rights deals.

TV Tokyo Holdings said on October 28, 2026 that it will invest 2 million US dollars (about 315 million yen) in the US company Nakama, which operates the anime licensing platform AniBiz.com, according to gamebiz.jp.

AniBiz.com connects anime rights holders with companies that handle merchandising and game adaptation. The platform was launched in July 2026 with the aim of streamlining what the company describes as complex licensing procedures. More than 30 companies currently take part, mostly licensers of popular Japanese anime IP.

Nakama was founded by the founding team of the anime streaming platform Crunchyroll.

TV Tokyo Holdings said it aims to support AniBiz.com's growth and to create global business opportunities for anime IP to which it holds the rights.

A TV Tokyo Holdings executive director, Toshiyasu Hiraoka, said that optimizing overseas licensing transactions through technology will accelerate the global expansion of the Japanese anime industry.

Long-term strategy

The investment comes as the group's long-term vision, TV Tokyo VISION 2035, includes a "CaaS strategy" aimed at maximizing the value of content.
