AMD executives visit Pearl Abyss to expand game tech cooperation

Jack Huynh and Joseph Macri toured the Crimson Desert studio on October 8, the only Korean game company visit on their Korea trip.

AMD senior vice president of the Computing and Graphics Group Jack Huynh and CTO Joseph Macri visited Pearl Abyss in Korea on October 8, according to inven.co.kr. It was the only Korean game company the two executives visited during their trip.

Huynh and Macri met Pearl Abyss CEO Jin-Young Heo and toured the studio's Crimson Desert development site. The two companies discussed expanding technical cooperation in areas including improving game development efficiency and enhancing the gaming experience.

The visit was arranged to coincide with AMD chair and CEO Lisa Su's trip to Korea. On October 7, Su met with Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung of the Ministry of Science and ICT at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul and held a roundtable with Korean AI semiconductor companies. The meeting followed up on an MOU signed between the ministry and AMD in July.

Also on October 7, Huynh mentioned Crimson Desert at the AMD Gamer Day held in Yongsan, Seoul. Su met with executives from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix that day to discuss AI cooperation, then returned to the US for government-related matters and did not join the October 8 Pearl Abyss visit.

Previous cooperation between the two companies

In September 2025, Pearl Abyss announced a strategic collaboration with AMD for optimizing the gaming experience and the global launch of Crimson Desert. A 'Crimson Desert X AMD pop-up store' in Hongdae, Seoul, ran from October 30 to November 1, 2025, showing a 50-minute demo with large-scale combat, missions, and open-world exploration. Pearl Abyss previously applied AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology to Black Desert.
