Ape Escape Revival Reportedly in Development at Sonic Mania Studio Evening Star

Journalist Jeff Gerstmann and outlet VGC say they have heard a new Ape Escape game is in the works, with Evening Star attached.

Rumors are circulating that a new Ape Escape game is in development for Sony, with Evening Star, the studio behind Sonic Mania, reportedly attached to the project.

On The Jeff Gerstmann Show, journalist Jeff Gerstmann said he had heard others talking about an Ape Escape revival and that around eight months ago he heard Evening Star could be working on it. VGC separately reported that it has heard from its own sources that a new entry is in development, according to Kotaku.

Sony is reportedly also looking at reviving other licenses it owns, including Killzone, following its revival of Everybody's Golf.

Series History

Ape Escape first appeared for the original PlayStation in 1999, and Ape Escape 3 was released in 2005 as the last core entry. In 2011, PlayStation Move Ape Escape was released for the PS3 wand peripheral. The series has spawned 14 spin-offs and sequels, including mini-game collections, an EyeToy version called Monkey Mania and an RPG.

The revival talk follows word that Sony is reportedly considering bringing back Killzone 13 years after Killzone Shadow Fall, while rumors about Uncharted circulated just yesterday, nearly a decade after its last new entry.
