Digital Bros, the parent company of publisher 505 Games, has decided to discontinue development of Armed Fantasia, the JRPG pitched as a spiritual successor to Wild Arms. The cancellation ends a project that had been in the works since a 2022 Kickstarter campaign raised nearly $3 million.
That crowdfunding effort funded prototypes for both Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood. Armed Fantasia was signed by 505 Games, while Penny Blood was picked up by Dangen Entertainment.
Akifumi Kaneko, lead designer on the original Wild Arms, led the Armed Fantasia project. According to Kaneko, the team had completed a Vertical Slice build containing the main scenario and core gameplay systems.
The game missed its planned March 2025 launch date. In 2024, Studio Wildrose sued Dangen Entertainment over withheld Kickstarter funds.
